Sarah Ludford MEP

Right to confront Geert Wilders, wrong to ban him

4.23.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 13th Oct 2009

Sarah Ludford, Liberal Democrat European justice & human rights spokeswoman and MEP for London, has welcomed the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal ruling that overturns the UK Home Office ban on far-right Dutch MP Geert Wilders from entering the UK.

Sarah said:

"Geert Wilder's brand of racist poison needs to be confronted, not evaded. By banning him the government has allowed him to pose as a martyr."

"He should be allowed to come to the UK where his inflammatory rhetoric should be contradicted."

ENDS.
